General Description: With this display I am trying to convey all of the different uses of coconut to the viewer. All of the uses of coconut are related to the coconut and are also related to each other in different ways. I have attempted to show how the uses for coconut relate to one another as well as how they are categorized.

Emulation Description: With this display I have most prominently emulated my color model. I used the exact colors from my color model as well as the same layout and shapes in the second version below. I emulated my typography model by using the same typeface and using all capitals for labels from my visual language model.

Displays that exploit the visual potential of relationships

Critique #1: Robert Brooks

Overall Robert liked both of my displays, he preferred my second version like myself. He though that the second version more closely emulated my color model and more distinctly showed the relationships between the different uses of coconuts. He suggested that I make the labels larger, make the coconut smaller, and change the color of the text in the overlapping sections.

Model Emulation Feedback

Robert thought that I emulated my color and typography models very well, and that i should continue to draw from my color model. He thought that maybe the labeling could more closely resemble the typography model as well.

Revisions based on this critique

Robert's critique prompted me to make the coconut smaller, and make the text size of the labels larger. He also prompted me to emulate my models more closely by adding a title to the display.

Sources: The data/inspiration for this display came from the following sources...

Critique #2: Andrew Joung

Andrew preferred my second version as well becasue of the organization and clarity of the display. He thought that I should make the labels larger and play around with the text color, and maybe make the coconut smaller. He thought that the middle triangle also had a little too much emphasis and that his attention was drawn there too frequently.

Model Emulation Feedback

Andrew thought that I emulated my color model the best and then my typography model, but did not see too many uses of my visual language model, which I agree with.

Revisions based on this critique

Andrew's critique prompted me to make the labels larger and coconut smaller. He also prompted me to move the coconut slightly in order to draw attention away from the center of the display. This is to also show that the center triangle does not represent the overlap of all the three triangles, whereas before the coconut kind of covered up the center.

Critique #3: Rylan Bonnevie

Rylan liked both of my displays overall, he preferred my second version as well as everyone else. He suggested that I create more separation between the traingular sections in order to more distinctly show the similarities and differences.

Model Emulation Feedback

He thought that I emulated my color model very well, and could emulate my visual language model more. He thought that the second version more accurately demonstrated my visual language model but that it could still use some more work.

Revisions based on this critique

Rylan's critique prompted to make my triangles slightly less transparent in order to bring out the colors more. He also prompted me to create a title to emulate my typgoraphy model more.

Critique #3: Chris

Chris liked the progression of my displays very much. He liked the addition of the title to my most recent version and thought that I emulated my typography model very well. He suggested that one thing I could do is remove the Religious section of the dispaly since it does not overlap with any sections of the display.

Model Emulation Feedback

Color model is emulated very well, typography model emulated even stronger. Could play with mode visual language elements/emulations.

Revisions based on this critique

Chris suggested that I remove the Religious uses of coconut from the display because it does not overlap with any of the other sections. I chose not to use this critique because I wanted to include the Religious uses of coconut in this display. Even if they are not related to the other uses of coconut, they are still related to the coconut itself.

Critique #2: Robert Brooks

This critique from Robert was very positive overall, he highly enjoyed my new revision of this display. He thought that added the title was very strong addition, and that making the coocnut smaller and labels larger was very effective. His main suggestion was to diagonally align the elements in Industrial and Cosmetic categories.

Model Emulation Feedback

Robert that that I emulated all of my models well and did not need to improve on any in particular.

Revisions based on this critique

Robert's critique was the most substantial for this iteration. He suggested that I align my Industrial and Cosmetic uses of coconut "diagonally" using the center align and vertical align tools in unison with each other. This critique signifcantly cleaned up my display.

Critique #1: Morgan Evans

Overall Morgan really liked my display. Unfortunately she did not have any major criticisms or suggestions. The main things she pointed out were small alignment changes and possibly playing around with the transparency in the final version. The final version may not bode well for transparency so I might need to change to white text on solid background color.

Model Emulation Feedback

Typography model was emulated perfectly, color model was emulated well but may need to change later on to fit with final display layout.

Revisions based on this critique

Morgan's critique was mostly criticism for my final infogrpahic, and not for this display specifically, so unfortunately there was not a lot of room for improvement with this critique. She prompted me to keep the transparency idea in mind though moving forward since there is no trasnparency in any of my models so it might look strange if it is included in my final infographic.
