Coconut
Designed by Conrad Zimney
General Description: With this display I am trying to communicate to my audience that this section of the infographic is about coconuts. I started with a much more realistic image, but removed details such as the second coconut and the more detailed edges, but retained overall shape to ensure that it would be recognizable. I also changed the colors slightly to provide an overall more pleasing image.
Emulation Description: I have emulated my models in this display by using my color swatches the create the coconut icon. I also used the visual language from my flat, iconic visual language model's icons to get inspiration for this display.
Displays that exploit the visual potential of appearance
Critique #1: Bobby Brooks
Bobby thought that my first version was s strong symbol of a coconut, but that the dimensionality was not consistent since the back one looked more flat comapred to the front coconut. Overall the colors worked well together however.
Model Emulation Feedback
Bobby preferred my second version more, when I attempted to emulate my visual language model more prominently. The blue background pronounced the icon well and was more recognizable.
Revisions based on this critique
Specifically I chose to recolor the icon based on Bobby's critique. After receiving primarily positive feedback, I only made minor changes based on this critique.

Sources: The data/inspiration for this display came from the following sources...
Critique #2: Andrew Joung
Andrew pointed out that there was a good level of detail with my first version, even though it wasn't too detailed. The colors however could be mistaken for something else, but the shape told him the most effectively that it was a coconut.
Model Emulation Feedback
Andrew noted that the colors of the second model more vividly told him that he was looking at a coconut and even gave him the sensation of enjoying a coconut. Overall he preferred this version, and thinks that I should use a darker brown even though it is not directly in my color model.
Revisions based on this critique
I changed the thickness of the outline on my icon based off of Andrew's critique. He also agreed that the change in color would be a strong choice, and found that it leveled the amount of detail seen in the icon to a more appropriate amount.
Critique #3: Emnet Gossaye
Emnet clearly understood my models upon first glance, and liked how 2 coconuts were included in the first version. He thought that the greys might be a little too dark even for the first model.
Model Emulation Feedback
Emnet liked how the edges were more defined in this model (version 2) and how the contrast of the colors better demonstrated the coconut's properties. Overall he preferred this one because of the colors and emulation of the visual language model.
Revisions based on this critique
Emnet noted that my grey's might be slightly too dark, so I lightened them based off of his critique. I hcose a light grey as well as recentered-reoriented the grey ellipse to be more aligned with the rest of the coconut icon.
Critique #3: Grace Kim
Colors made Grace immediately think of hydrating coconut water from the blue and white colors which was exactly the sensation I was going for. Overall she really liked my icon and thought that my revised version was strong and well done.
Model Emulation Feedback
Use of colors was perfect for conveying the feelings I wanted to, and the flatness of the icon showed that it was clearly emulated from the visual model that I chose.
Revisions based on this critique
Grace did not have many major suggestions or critiques for this version of my appearance. Because of this there were no specific changes to make from this feedback.
Critique #2: Michelle Lee
Colors are working very well together, obviously a coconut. Made her want coconut water which was good.
Model Emulation Feedback
Michelle thought that I did a good job matching the visual style or my language model, as well as using the colors of my color model to my advantage.
Revisions based on this critique
Michelle did not have many major suggestions or critiques for this version of my appearance. Because of this there were no specific changes to make from this feedback.
Critique #1: Memie Huang
Memie really enjoyed my revision compared to my original mostly because of the color scheme. She thought that overall my icon blended the use of my models together very effectively.
Model Emulation Feedback
She thought that this icon emulated my visual model well, except that maybe instead of a circular background, I could use a square one. This would more closely resemeble my visual model and could make my coconut pop out even more.
Revisions based on this critique
Memie suggested that I change the background to a square, so I did! This was the primary revision from this critique.
