Design Process

Numbers

I have created two displays for my final infographic that exploit the visual potential of numbers. One shows data about the amount of coconut water imported into the U. S. over the past 10 years, while the other examines how coconut oil varies in fat composition compared to other nut oils.

Locations

For my display that exploits the visual potential of location, I have created a map that displays coconut production worldwide. It shows the countries that produce the most coconuts on average since 1965, while also showing which countries were the top 5 producers in 2013.

Appearance

For my appearance displays, I have emulated a coconut icon in two different fashions. For one, I created a silhouette of a coconut than has been chopped in half with another whole coconut behind it. For the second, I have created an icon of a coconut that resemebles an icon used in my visual language model.

Relationships

My relationship display demonstrates many of the different uses of coconuts. I have used a model similar to that in my color model, but for the purpose of showing the many overlapping uses of coconut in the world.

Time

This display exploits the visual potential of time by using a timeline to show the different founding years of companies that distribute coconut water. This display is meant to educate the viewer on the surge in companies in recent years, but also to show them that coconut water distribution has existed since the 1970's.

Layout

My layout display represents my final infographic. It is a combination of all of my previous displays, and uses a combination of layouts in order to best exploit the different potentials of each one.
